I, David Berry, delegate of the Roads Corporation, under Regulation 1101 of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 1988,
prohibit the sale of the equipment specified in column 1 of the following Table unless the equipment complies with the
standard in column 2 of the table.
Column 1 - Equipment
A protective helmet designed to be worn by a person riding on,
or being carried as a passenger on, a motor cycle being driven
on a highway or in a public place.
Column 2 - Standard
The equipment must--
(a) comply with Australian Standard 1698-1988 Protective Helmets for
Vehicle Users, or any earlier version of Australian Standard 1698; and
(b) be marked with the Australian Standards Mark.
Item 3 of the Instrument entitled “Prohibition on Sale of Certain Equipment” and published in Government Gazette No. S15 dated
1 March 1988 is hereby revoked.

Rule 270 of the Road Rules - Victoria, published as Government Gazette P2 of 1999 on 28 October 1999, and incorporated by reference
into the Road Safety (Road Rules) Regulations 1999, requires a person riding or a passenger on a motor bike to wear a motor bike
helmet approved by the Roads Corporation.
In accordance with that rule, I, Eric Howard, delegate of the Roads Corporation, approve helmets that --
(a)
are marked with an official standards mark certifying compliance with the relevant Standard; and
(b)
(i)
comply with Australian Standard AS 1698-1988 Protective Helmets for Vehicle Users; or
(ii)
in the case of helmets manufactured in Australia, comply with the version of that Standard that was in force at the time of
manufacture or any later version; or
(iii)
in the case of helmets imported into Australia, comply with the version of that Standard that was in force at the time of
importation or any later version.
