Pre 1989 amendments were Notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette

The helmet regulation S190A was added to the 1936 Traffic Act in 1973, the amendments are listed below

Act No. 23, 1974 - twenty-five miles per hour changed to 40 kilometres per hour

Act No. 49, 1982 - Add sub clause (ba), This added AS1698 helmet standard

Act No. 18, 1983 - Section 190A is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) "Twenty dollars" and substituting "$80".

Act No. 37, 1990 - amend subsection 6

Section 190A of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from subsection (6) “sub-section (5) of section 7A of this Act a copy of each notice referred to in paragraph (a) of the last preceding sub-section” and substituting “paragraph 7A (8) (a) a copy of each notice referred to in paragraph (5) (a)”.

Act Nos. 47 and 57, 1993; - 47, language changes, 57 remove paragraph 3(a)

Act No. 81, 1994 - Move to Penalty Units, the penalty was $80 and became 1 penalty Unit

Subsection 190A (1)- Omit “, on or after the expiration of the period of two months after the commencement of this section”.

Paragraphs 190A (1) (c) and (d) - Insert “or she” after “he”.

Paragraph 190A (1) (e) - (a) Insert “or she” after “he”. (b) Insert “or her” after “his”.

Subsection 190A (2) - Omit “the last preceding subsection”, substitute “subsection (1)”.

Subsection 190A (3) - Omit “of this section”.

Paragraph 190A (3) (b) - Insert “or she” after “he” (wherever occurring).

Paragraphs 190A (4) (a) and (b) - Omit “-1966”.

Subsection 190A (5) - Omit “(d) of the last preceding subsection”, substitute “(4) (d)”.

Paragraphs 190A (5) (a) and (b) - Omit “(a) of the last preceding subsection”, substitute “(4) (a)”.
