The first two marks below are the original Standards Association of Australia Trade Marks.
The SAA kite mark was the original Certification Trade Mark used by the Standards Association and is the mark referenced by all the AS1698 standards up to SAA voluntary standard AS1698-1988. The mark is really only the graphic in the middle coupled with the "AS" and the Standard No. For helmets there are two versions of text around the CTM, "Approved to Australian Standards" and "Manufactured to Australian Standards". This outer text was mandated by the States and Federal Govt in the regulation gazettes.
Certification Trade Mark 238042 is shown as "Removed" from the Trademarks Register on 20 June 1991.
The ACCC AS1698-1988 standard specified in Consumer Protection Notice 9 removes the requirement for this mark.
The Standards Australia "5 ticks" Certification Trade Mark was registered in 1992 and assigned to SAI Global in 2004.
It is a condition of registration that the blank space in the mark shall, when the mark is in use, be left vacant.
